Vintage Furniture Policy

A Personal Note to Our Customers

We are an independent business specialising in carefully sourced vintage, antique and handcrafted furniture. Each piece is chosen for its character, quality and longevity.

We personally deliver our furniture to ensure it arrives safely and exactly as described. Every item is photographed, described and inspected with care, and we encourage customers to ask any questions before purchasing.

Because many of our pieces are decades old and one-of-a-kind, natural signs of age and history should be expected. These features form part of their authenticity and charm.

If you purchase online, your statutory consumer rights apply. The policy below sets out the practical details clearly and transparently for both parties.

1. Product Nature & Condition

We specialise in vintage, antique and second-hand furniture.

By purchasing from us, you acknowledge that:

  • Items may show age-related wear, patina, historic repairs and character.

  • Timber may contain natural splits, knots, filler, historic joinery marks and movement.

  • Surface wear consistent with age is not a defect.

Condition must always be assessed in the context of age, materials, prior use and price.

We provide detailed descriptions and photographs. Minor variation in tone may occur due to lighting or screen differences.

2. Pricing & Payment

Full cleared payment is required to secure an item.

Title (ownership) does not pass until payment is received in full.

We reserve the right to cancel and refund an order where:

  • A genuine pricing error has occurred

  • The item becomes unavailable

  • Delivery is not reasonably achievable

3. Consumer Rights & Cancellation (Online / Distance Sales)

For online or distance purchases made by consumers, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 may provide a 14-day cancellation period beginning the day after delivery.

To cancel, written notice must be provided within 14 days of delivery.

Return Transport & Responsibility

If cancellation is exercised:

  • You are responsible for arranging and paying for return transport.

  • We do not arrange or collect returns for change-of-mind cancellations.

  • The item must be returned in the same condition in which it was delivered.

  • The item remains your responsibility until safely received by us.

  • Insured professional transport is strongly recommended.

We may deduct from any refund for loss in value resulting from handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect the goods.

Original delivery charges are non-refundable unless required by law.

Not Grounds for Refund

The following are not considered faults:

  • Age-related wear

  • Natural timber movement

  • Minor surface marks consistent with description

  • Environmental response of wood after delivery

  • Tone variations caused by lighting

Bespoke or Modified Items

Items that have been custom finished, reupholstered, painted to order or structurally altered to customer specification may be exempt from cancellation rights.

Nothing in this section affects rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 where goods are not as described or not of satisfactory quality (considering age and second-hand status).

4. Delivery Service

We personally carry out all furniture deliveries and do not outsource to third-party courier services.

Delivery is estimated at:

£0.75 per mile from NG25 0TX

This rate reflects fuel, vehicle costs, insurance, maintenance, time and a two-person delivery team.

Where delivery is not calculated at checkout, a quotation will be provided prior to confirmation.

Delivery charges are estimates and may vary depending on access, route alignment and scheduling.

5. Delivery Area & Sustainable Scheduling

We are unable to deliver to all parts of the UK. Delivery is subject to distance and logistics.

To reduce environmental impact, we aim to align deliveries within the same region wherever possible.

This may result in reduced delivery costs where routes align.

Remote or single deliveries may be charged at the standard mileage rate.

Delivery dates are estimates unless expressly confirmed in writing.

We are not liable for delays caused by traffic, weather, mechanical issues or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

6. Third-Party Couriers & Collections

For insurance and liability reasons:

  • We do not release furniture to third-party couriers arranged by customers.

  • Furniture will only be delivered by us or collected in person by the purchaser.

If independent transport is arranged without our agreement, risk passes when the item leaves our control.

7. Inspection & Acceptance

All items must be inspected at delivery.

Any concerns regarding damage, incorrect items or material discrepancies must be raised before our delivery team leaves.

Once delivery is completed and no issues are recorded, the item is deemed accepted in satisfactory condition.

We cannot accept liability for damage reported after delivery unless clear evidence demonstrates it occurred prior to or during delivery.

8. Access & Property Risk

Customers are responsible for ensuring:

  • Adequate access

  • Accurate measurements of entry points

  • Clear pathways

  • Suitable parking

We are not liable for damage caused by restricted access or placement instructions provided by the customer.

If delivery cannot be completed due to undisclosed access restrictions, additional charges may apply.

9. Timber Movement & Environment

Wood is a natural material and may respond to changes in humidity, heating systems, sunlight and seasonal conditions.

We are not responsible for post-delivery shrinkage, expansion, minor splitting, joint movement or finish variation caused by environmental conditions.

10. Risk & Limitation of Liability

Risk passes upon successful delivery and acceptance.

Our liability shall not exceed the purchase price of the item.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit or delays outside our reasonable control.

Nothing in this policy limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.
